Word Smoothies

Picture yourself making your favorite smoothie. Of course, you'll need

your fruits, other ingredients, and a blender. Now let's make a smoothie for

your child. In this case, the blender is a book. Now in that book, you have

your fruits and other ingredients which are the words. When your

child/student begins reading, he/she is going to come across some unknown

words. The child will be able to figure out those words by blending.

Blending is an excellent skill that helps with reading. It pushes letter

sounds together to create a word. Most of the time, students find blending to

be very difficult. One way to correct this problem is by making the

child/student aware of patterns such as word families and diagraphs. Below
